What is the purpose of the Valganciclovir Tablet?

Valganciclovir Tablet is a type of antiviral medication. It’s a drug that’s used to treat viral infections. This medication is also used to prevent CMV infection in organ donation recipients (eg, heart, kidney, or kidney-pancreas transplant).

What is the best time to take Valganciclovir?

Valganciclovir pills should be taken with food whenever feasible – see section 2. Within 10 days after your transplant, you should begin taking this medication. Two tablets, taken ONCE a day, is the normal dose. This dose should be continued for up to 100 days after your transplant.

What are the valganciclovir side effects?

  • Valganciclovir Tablet has the potential to induce adverse effects. If any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away, contact your doctor:
  • diarrhea.

  • vomiting.
  • Abdominal pain, soreness, or edema
  • ache in the eyes
  • constipation.
  • headache.
  • a reduction in weight.

Is it possible to crush the Valganciclovir Tablet?

It should not be broken, crushed, or chewed. Handle crushed or broken tablets with caution. Wash your skin with soap and clean water if you come into touch with broken or crushed tablets or mixed oral fluids. If you get the medicine in your eyes, rinse them with water.

How long may Valganciclovir Tablets be taken?

Valganciclovir Tablet is usually given in two doses twice a day for 21 days (three weeks). If you take this dose for more than 21 days without consulting your doctor, you risk increasing your risk of side effects.
