When should I take Nevirapine tablets?
In many developing nations, a two-dose Nevivir (NVP) regimen around the time of birth is recommended in many developing nations as the most cost-effective strategy to prevent HIV transmission from mother to child. What does nevivir do to babies?
Although a 6-week course of daily Nevirapine tablets may reduce the risk of HIV transmission at 6 weeks of age, the lack of a significant reduction in the primary endpoint—the risk of HIV transmission at 6 months—suggests that a longer course of daily infant nevirapine to prevent HIV transmission via sexual transmission is needed.

If you are allergic to nevirapine or if you have moderate to severe liver disease, you should not take this medication. Some medications can have an adverse reaction with nevivir and should not be taken at the same time.
How long is Nevirapine tablets effective?
AZT and lamivudine (3TC) are used in conjunction with nevivir for a total of 4 weeks, followed by 2 more weeks of AZT and 3TC to prevent the development of nevivir resistance as a result of the drug’s lengthy elimination half-life.
