Hypromellose Ophthalmic Solution USP

Hypromellose Ophthalmic Solution USP is a sterile, preservative-free eye drop formulation primarily used as a lubricant to relieve dry eyes and increase moisture on the ocular surface. Hypromellose, a derivative of cellulose, acts as a thickening agent, providing viscosity that helps retain moisture and protect the ocular surface.

• Soothing relief from eye dryness and irritation.
• Lubrication during use of contact lenses.
• Protection of the corneal epithelium in cases of ocular surface disorders.

Hypromellose Ophthalmic Solution USP works by forming a protective layer on the cornea, thereby reducing friction and irritation. Its viscosity increases the retention time of the solution on the eye surface, thereby providing relief from dryness for a longer period.

• The usual dose is 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed.
• It may be used before or during contact lens wear.
• Patients should wash their hands before instilling the drops and avoid touching the dropper tip to prevent contamination.

Hypromellose Ophthalmic Solution is generally well tolerated. However, possible side effects may include:

• Temporary blurred vision upon instillation.
• Mild irritation or redness of the eyes.
• Allergic reactions (rare).

• Patients with known hypersensitivity to hypromellose or any of its components should avoid using it.
• Individuals with serious eye disease or infection are advised to exercise caution.
• Contact lens wearers should consult their healthcare provider for guidance on product use.

• Store in a shaded, dry environment at a cool temperature.
• Make sure the container is tightly closed when not in use to maintain sterility.
