Strength: Thalidomide 100mg

Thycad (thalidomide 100mg) is a potent immunomodulatory drug used primarily in the treatment of multiple myeloma, a type of cancer affecting the plasma cells in the bone marrow. Thalidomide is also effective in the management of certain dermatological conditions and other immune-related diseases such as erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL), an inflammatory complication of leprosy.

Use of Thalidomide 100mg Capsule Thycad

Multiple myeloma: Thycad is often given in combination with other medications, such as dexamethasone, to treat multiple myeloma. It helps slow or stop the growth of abnormal plasma cells.

Erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL): It reduces the inflammatory symptoms of ENL, thereby improving patient outcomes.

Other conditions: It may also be used in certain inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, provided medical advice is taken.

Mechanism of Action:

Thalidomide modulates the immune system by inhibiting angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), which is important in limiting the growth of cancer cells. It also affects the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby reducing inflammation in conditions such as ENL.

Important Considerations:

Contraindications: Thycad is contraindicated in pregnancy due to its teratogenic effects, which can cause severe birth defects.

Side effects: Common side effects include peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage), dizziness, constipation, and drowsiness. Long-term use requires close monitoring for more serious side effects.

Precautions: If a woman is of conceivable potential she is advised to follow strict contraceptive measures, and regular medical follow-up is necessary to monitor neurological health and blood parameters.
