An iron replacement therapy called Ferric Carboxymaltose Inj is used to treat iron deficiency anaemia (lack of iron in the blood) in people with non-dialysis dependent chronic kidney disease (CKD), as well as in people who cannot take iron supplements or whose iron supplements are ineffective.
How should injection of ferric carboxymaltose be diluted?
When given as an infusion, dilute up to 750 mg of iron in a maximum of 250 mL of sterile 0.9% sodium chloride injection, USP, so that the infusion’s iron content is at least 2 mg per mL. This should be done over a minimum of 15 minutes.
