What is the class Ertapenem Injection 1 gm Gerta?

Ertapenem, an antibiotic in the carbapenem class, is a component of Gerta Injection 1. It is applied to the management of severe or high-risk bacterial infections. Ertapenem has a bactericidal effect and acts by eradicating the infection-causing bacteria.

Why is this drug recommended?

Ertapenem injection is used to treat some severe bacterial infections, such as pneumonia and infections of the urinary system, skin, diabetic foot, gynaecological, pelvic, and abdominal (stomach area) organs. Additionally, it is used to stop infections after colorectal surgery. Ertapenem belongs to the group of drugs known as carbapenem antibiotics. It eliminates bacteria and allows only plants to operate.

How is this medication to be taken?

As a powder to be dissolved in liquid and injected intravenously (into a vein) or intramuscularly, ertapenem injection is available (into a muscle). It is slowly infused (administered) intravenously once or twice daily for up to 14 days over the course of at least 30 minutes. Additionally, it may be administered intramuscularly once or twice a day for up to 7 days. The length of the treatment depends on the type of infection being treated. Your doctor will determine how long to administer the ertapenem injection. Your doctor can change you to another oral antibiotic after your condition becomes better and you finish your therapy.

What negative effects might this medicine have?

How should I proceed if I forget to take a dose?

If the next dose is soon due, skip the missed one and carry on with your regular dosing plan. To make up for a missing dose, do not take a second one.
